One of the greatest joys of painting, alongside my own personal practice, is being privately commissioned. There's nothing quite as satisfying as the feeling of a happy client when I present a new piece.

I like to start with a proposal meeting, where we can talk through the project — over the phone, video call or in person. For a portrait, I prefer either to meet the subject or to work from a photograph with a good description of the characteristics you'd like captured. From that initial meeting, the work typically takes 4–16 weeks depending on scale and scope, with most paintings taking around 6-8 weeks start to finish.
